About this Workshop
This small-group, in-person workshop explores portrait-making through linocut, inspired by the bold, expressive approaches of German Expressionist printmakers.
Rather than focusing on realistic likeness, the workshop encourages experimentation with mark-making, contrast, and simplification to capture character and emotion. You’ll be guided through developing a portrait image, transferring it to lino, carving, and printing. You will use professional tools, not beginner student tools as this will provide you with the best introduction or continued learning experience possible.
The workshop is beginner-friendly, with step-by-step guidance and individual support throughout. All materials are provided, and the emphasis is on exploration, confidence, and learning through doing.
This workshop is suitable for creatives looking to loosen their approach to image-making, and anyone interested in expressive printmaking techniques.
